How to Change Page Color in Google Docs

When you create a new document in Google Docs it is going to have a number of different options that are set by default.

Some of these options are things that you will notice, such as the default font or the default spacing, while others involve document settings that you may not consider.

One of these options is the color of the page. By default, new document will have a white page color. This is pretty in standard in most word processing applications.

But you may be wondering how to change the page color in Google Docs if you are creating something like a flyer or newsletter where the color of the page can have more of an impact.

How to Switch Page Color in Google Docs

  1. Open the document.
  2. Click File.
  3. Choose Page setup.
  4. Click Page color and choose the color.
  5. Click OK.

The color of the page should update automatically after you make this change.

Note that changing the page color will cause that color to print out. This can cause you to use a lot of ink. I would recommend keeping the page color white if you plan to print out test pages, and only printing it in color when you are finished.

Additionally, many document objects have a white background that you won’t notice until the background color is changed. Be sure to scroll through the document and check that nothing looks bad when the page color is different.
